Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

FutureB
The phones sank the Lions this weekend: D-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Lions would have aced it. Stephiylan Green at No. 209 is 40 spots clear of where he belonged. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They banked enough surplus on Bolden to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Ellis Robinson IV
No edge and no loss on Ellis Robinson IV in Round 1, Pick 11; it is a wash and a sensible one. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick47
Rnd2
KJ Bolden
A top-tier safety at a bargain, KJ Bolden in pick 47, plain and simple. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick78
Rnd3
Quincy Rhodes Jr.
Quincy Rhodes Jr. at the 78th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick81
Rnd3
Samson Okunlola
A straight-up fair deal on Samson Okunlola at the 81st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick115
Rnd4
Dylan Raiola
Dylan Raiola in pick No. 115 is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jaylen McClain
Jaylen McClain at No. 118 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick138
Rnd5
Blake Frazier
They reached into another round for Blake Frazier, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jordan Marshall
No drama and no debate, Jordan Marshall went about where he belonged in pick No. 149. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick153
Rnd5
AJ Green
This one needs a full-page explanation: AJ Green in pick 153, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick186
Rnd6
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
They robbed the room for Jermaine Mathews Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick192
Rnd6
Benjamin Brahmer
They liked Benjamin Brahmer enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 11. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick207
Rnd6
Andrew Rappleyea
They took Andrew Rappleyea at par in No. 207, which is nothing to complain about. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick209
Rnd6
Stephiylan Green
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Stephiylan Green well ahead of where he belonged. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick217
Rnd6
Sammy Omosigho
Sammy Omosigho in the 217th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick220
Rnd7
Johntay Cook
Johntay Cook in the 220th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick237
Rnd7
Tavion Gadson
They reached a country mile for Tavion Gadson at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick239
Rnd7
D'Antre Robinson
A wild overpay on D'Antre Robinson in the 239th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick249
Rnd7
Jay'Vion Cole
Jay'Vion Cole at pick 249 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
