FutureC
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Lions: C. When the story of this class is written, it opens with AJ Green at pick 152, a reach of 34 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
Getting Johnson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Robinson IV pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back and wide receiver still on the board. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Ellis Robinson IV
A want over a need in Round 1, Pick 15: Ellis Robinson IV adds a cornerback while running back and wide receiver keeps waiting.
Pick45
Rnd2
Tae Johnson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tae Johnson at the Round 2 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick47
Rnd2
Kelley Jones
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Kelley Jones in the 47th overall pick leaves running back and wide receiver for later.
Pick81
Rnd3
Quincy Rhodes Jr.
Quincy Rhodes Jr. at pick 81 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick115
Rnd4
Luke Montgomery
A slide stopped in slot 115, with Luke Montgomery worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick121
Rnd4
Dylan Raiola
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dylan Raiola. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick132
Rnd4
Myles Graham
A surprising call. With running back and wide receiver still to address, they spent No. 132 on Myles Graham, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick152
Rnd5
AJ Green
They reached into another round for AJ Green, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick201
Rnd6
Jake Guarnera
Jake Guarnera in Round 6, Pick 20 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick207
Rnd6
Andrew Rappleyea
They took Andrew Rappleyea at par in pick 207, which is nothing to complain about. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick209
Rnd6
Sammy Omosigho
Sammy Omosigho at pick No. 209 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
