The phones sank the Lions this weekend: C. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Lions started one anyway for Kameryn Crawford, 46 picks ahead of schedule.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Fitzgerald. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The veteran additions, Budda Baker chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Hit on Kelley Jones and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kelley Jones
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kelley Jones. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick68
Rnd3
Samson Okunlola
A big swing on Samson Okunlola at pick 68, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick89
Rnd3
Peyton Bowen
Peyton Bowen slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 25 is lovely value for the safety. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick108
Rnd4
Dylan Raiola
Value said wait; Dylan Raiola in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick126
Rnd4
Myles Graham
No drama and no debate, Myles Graham went about where he belonged in pick No. 126. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick134
Rnd4
Kameryn Crawford
They reached a country mile for Kameryn Crawford at the 134th pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139
Rnd5
Blake Frazier
They left a pile of value on the table to take Blake Frazier this early at the 139th pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick163
Rnd5
Jordan Marshall
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Marshall at Round 5, Pick 25, and it noticed. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick180
Rnd6
Robert Fitzgerald
They will replay Robert Fitzgerald at No. 180 for years; that is how good the value is. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick204
Rnd6
Benjamin Brahmer
A real head-scratcher, Benjamin Brahmer in pick 204 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick216
Rnd6
Andrew Rappleyea
They reached into another round for Andrew Rappleyea, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick246
Rnd7
Antonio Kite
Antonio Kite at pick No. 246 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Johntay Cook
A reach for Johntay Cook in the Round 7 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick254
Rnd7
Xavier Chaplin
A reach on Xavier Chaplin in the 254th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
