FutureD
A weekend the Lions spent fighting the board, and losing. F. The Lions did not so much draft D'Antre Robinson as overpay for him, 90 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It bottoms out at a F.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Getting Alexander where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers. The Lions paired the rookies with proven help, Kool-Aid McKinstry leading the way.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Ellis Robinson IV
In pick No. 15 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
Pick40
Rnd2
KJ Bolden
Steal is underselling it; KJ Bolden at pick 40 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick81
Rnd3
Samson Okunlola
They went early on Samson Okunlola in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick100
Rnd3
Jaylen McClain
Jaylen McClain in the 100th pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick101
Rnd3
Bear Alexander
They robbed the room for Bear Alexander here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick118
Rnd4
Dylan Raiola
The board had cheaper options than Dylan Raiola at Round 4, Pick 17, and it noticed. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick128
Rnd4
Kameryn Crawford
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kameryn Crawford well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick137
Rnd4
Ian Moore
A reach on Ian Moore in No. 137; the board had better options right there. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick144
Rnd5
Myles Graham
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 6, with Myles Graham worth more than the price. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick163
Rnd5
Blake Frazier
A premium they did not need to pay, Blake Frazier a notch or two before his time. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick171
Rnd5
Benjamin Brahmer
They left a pile of value on the table to take Benjamin Brahmer this early at slot 171. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick172
Rnd5
Andrew Rappleyea
Andrew Rappleyea at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick175
Rnd5
Kam Franklin
A real head-scratcher, Kam Franklin in the 175th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177
Rnd5
Nicholas Rodriguez
Nicholas Rodriguez at the 177th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick189
Rnd6
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Nice patience on Jermaine Mathews Jr., who had no business lasting to the 189th overall pick. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick191
Rnd6
Jeremiah Cobb
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jeremiah Cobb. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick200
Rnd6
Francis Brewu
Francis Brewu at pick 200 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick204
Rnd6
Stephiylan Green
This one needs a full-page explanation: Stephiylan Green in slot 204, miles early. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick207
Rnd6
Tavion Gadson
Tavion Gadson at the 207th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick213
Rnd6
D'Antre Robinson
They reached a country mile for D'Antre Robinson at No. 213, and the board is aghast. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick216
Rnd6
Mario Landino
Value said wait; Mario Landino in Round 6, Pick 37 says they were not listening. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick220
Rnd6
Jordan Faison
Jordan Faison in pick No. 220 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick222
Rnd7
Noah Carter
Noah Carter in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick227
Rnd7
Bryce Thornton
No drama and no debate, Bryce Thornton went about where he belonged in the 227th overall pick. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick232
Rnd7
Zavier Mincey
The board fumbled Zavier Mincey all the way to the 232nd pick, and they scooped it up. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick236
Rnd7
Cody Jackson
They talked themselves into Cody Jackson at Round 7, Pick 15, and the board did not agree. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick245
Rnd7
Jake Guarnera
Value with a capital V on Jake Guarnera in pick No. 245, a genuine coup. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick246
Rnd7
C.J. Fite
C.J. Fite in No. 246 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick248
Rnd7
Braylan Shelby
Braylan Shelby at pick 248 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick254
Rnd7
Antonio Kite
They reached into another round for Antonio Kite, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
