Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Grand theft in Round 7, Pick 31: the Lions steal Watson and grade out a B+.

The real work happened on the phones. The Lions fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

They banked enough surplus on Watson to cover a lot of smaller sins. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Crumedy has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Keon Coleman
In pick No. 30 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick68 Rnd3 Adisa Isaac
Good price on Adisa Isaac in pick 68, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick73 Rnd3 Caelen Carson
Caelen Carson in slot 73 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jamari Thrash
They let Jamari Thrash come to them and pounced at the 104th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick115 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick183 Rnd6 Andru Phillips
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Andru Phillips in No. 183. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick188 Rnd6 Julian Pearl
A tidy little value on Julian Pearl in pick 188, a step better than break-even. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick196 Rnd6 Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor at No. 196 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick208 Rnd6 Jaden Crumedy
They jumped the gun on Jaden Crumedy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick251 Rnd7 Nathaniel Watson
Somehow Nathaniel Watson was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. The roster fit checks out.
