Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
D-

FutureB
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Panthers to a D-. The tape said wait; the Panthers did not. Jaheim Bell went at the 101st overall pick, a good 39 picks before the board was ready. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Ulofoshio at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Panthers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick47
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
No edge and no loss on Kris Jenkins in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick65
Rnd3
Blake Corum
A reach on Blake Corum in pick 65; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick66
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
A conviction pick on Roman Wilson at the 66th pick that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick71
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at pick No. 71 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. It fills a real need, too.
Pick101
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaheim Bell. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick107
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Fair-plus on Blake Fisher, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick168
Rnd5
Edefuan Ulofoshio
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: Edefuan Ulofoshio for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick180
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
A clean, defensible pick in slot 180 with a little surplus value in Roger Rosengarten. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick222
Rnd7
Trevor Keegan
They liked Trevor Keegan enough to skip the value, taking him in the 222nd pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
