Draft Grade — Browns
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The phones sank the Browns this weekend: D+.

The Browns looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Collin Oliver at Round 5, Pick 30 regardless, 120 picks early.

That Simon pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the 14th pick they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Quinn Ewers
A big swing on Quinn Ewers at slot 33, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick34 Rnd2 Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond at No. 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick38 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
A reasonable price with a little left over, Derrick Harmon in the 38th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick45 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at pick 45 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick67 Rnd3 Josh Conerly Jr.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Josh Conerly Jr. in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick97 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
Value with a capital V on Barrett Carter in the 97th pick, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick103 Rnd4 Dylan Sampson
Steal is underselling it; Dylan Sampson at slot 103 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick134 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Taking Jake Majors in Round 4, Pick 33 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick138 Rnd5 Cam Skattebo
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to pick 138, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick167 Rnd5 Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver at the 167th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick178 Rnd6 Sonny Styles
They will replay Sonny Styles at No. 178 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick191 Rnd6 Cody Simon
Cody Simon at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick203 Rnd6 Nick Nash
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nick Nash this early at pick No. 203. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick214 Rnd6 Davison Igbinosun
They took Davison Igbinosun at par in pick No. 214, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick215 Rnd6 Shilo Sanders
They reached a country mile for Shilo Sanders at Round 6, Pick 40, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick232 Rnd7 Xavier Truss
Xavier Truss in the 232nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
