Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
D+
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureA
Daniels is the Browns' new face under center. Grade: D+. The phones were a trap the Browns kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Put together, it is a D+.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Chambers pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. On value alone, Jones makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In slot 8 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick56
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A tidy bit of business in No. 56, where Xavier Worthy graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick57
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
A clean, defensible pick in the 57th pick with a little surplus value in Tyler Guyton. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus slid further than he should have, and pick No. 74 is lovely value for the edge rusher. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Jonathon Brooks
A quiet steal in the 86th overall pick: Jonathon Brooks for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick92
Rnd3
McKinnley Jackson
They took McKinnley Jackson at par in Round 3, Pick 29, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick125
Rnd4
Cam Hart
No edge and no loss on Cam Hart in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen in pick 138 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick164
Rnd5
Malik Washington
Malik Washington at pick 164 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick174
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
Good price on Ty'Ron Hopper in the Round 5 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick204
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at No. 204 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick210
Rnd6
Steele Chambers
They jumped the gun on Steele Chambers, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick231
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
They barely believed it either: Sheridan Jones still on the board at Round 7, Pick 11. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
