Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB- TradesC- FutureA+
The Browns won the night they stopped Mullings from sliding. Grade: B.

Somebody in slot 217 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Browns sat still while Kalel Mullings, the No. 113 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

Reaching for Jefferson left real value on the table behind him. The Campbell pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Malaki Starks
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill hitter at safety, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick33 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Emeka Egbuka at pick 33 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick57 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
A linebacker of that caliber at the 57th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick64 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at pick No. 64 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jihaad Campbell
A surprising call. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent the 67th pick on Jihaad Campbell, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick74 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
A slide stopped in No. 74, with Zy Alexander worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Will Howard
They talked themselves into Will Howard at slot 94, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick103 Rnd4 Barrett Carter
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Barrett Carter in Round 4, Pick 2 leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick129 Rnd4 TreVeyon Henderson
Somehow TreVeyon Henderson was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick165 Rnd5 Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. in pick No. 165 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick181 Rnd6 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in No. 181 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick194 Rnd6 Ryan Fitzgerald
They will replay Ryan Fitzgerald at pick 194 for years; that is how good the value is. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick202 Rnd6 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders at Round 6, Pick 27 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick216 Rnd6 KJ Jefferson
KJ Jefferson in the 216th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick217 Rnd7 Kalel Mullings
You do not let a running back like Kalel Mullings reach the 217th pick and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
