Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

FutureC+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D+. The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Haynes King, taking him 86 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Clark pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Branch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In No. 12 they get a ballhawk on the back end, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick35
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at Round 2, Pick 3 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick45
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
They paid sticker price for D'Angelo Ponds in pick No. 45, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick80
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
No edge and no loss on Jacob Rodriguez in pick 80; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
They will replay Zachariah Branch at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
They paid a round early for Davison Igbinosun in the 112th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Bud Clark
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Bud Clark adds a safety and leaves tight end untouched.
Pick146
Rnd5
Louis Moore
A reach for Louis Moore in No. 146; a little patience would have been rewarded. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick150
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
They went early on Aaron Graves in slot 150, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
Pick215
Rnd6
Noah Whittington
A reach on Noah Whittington in the 215th pick; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick221
Rnd7
Logan Taylor
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Logan Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick225
Rnd7
Haynes King
Haynes King at the 225th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
