The jury is out on the Cowboys. For now, C+. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent pick No. 169 on Joey Slackman, a name the board had a full 65 spots lower.
The Leonard steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. The Henry To'oTo'o deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge, reach and all.
Pick47
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
A slide stopped in slot 47, with Tyleik Williams worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick50
Rnd2
Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at the 50th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick62
Rnd2
Ollie Gordon II
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ollie Gordon II well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick85
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A conviction pick on Ozzy Trapilo at Round 3, Pick 21 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jonah Coleman
A real head-scratcher, Jonah Coleman in pick 131 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick153
Rnd5
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard at the 153rd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick169
Rnd5
Joey Slackman
A wild overpay on Joey Slackman in pick No. 169, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick170
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 170th overall pick, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick171
Rnd5
Barion Brown
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Barion Brown in pick 171. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick189
Rnd6
Davison Igbinosun
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Davison Igbinosun at No. 189. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick208
Rnd6
Gentry Williams
Good price on Gentry Williams in the Round 6 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick213
Rnd6
Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at slot 213 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
