Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a D to match. The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Amegadjie steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 4th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In pick No. 27 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 35 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick43
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter at Round 2, Pick 11 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick66
Rnd3
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 66th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick71
Rnd3
Kris Jenkins
Taking Kris Jenkins in slot 71 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks in pick 75 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick111
Rnd4
Kiran Amegadjie
Steal is underselling it; Kiran Amegadjie at Round 4, Pick 11 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
Fair-plus on Sataoa Laumea, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick142
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
They let Johnny Wilson come to them and pounced at the 142nd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick143
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at No. 143 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
