Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B
ValueB NeedB- TradesC- FutureA+
Good, not great, for the Vikings: B.

The board owed the Vikings one, and it paid up: Javon Bullard, the No. 66 name on the board, sitting there at the 107th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

The Anderson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

With quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Cooper DeJean
In No. 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick47 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
A quiet steal in the 47th overall pick: Chop Robinson for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick107 Rnd4 Javon Bullard
You do not let a safety like Javon Bullard reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109 Rnd4 Max Melton
A surprising call. With quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent slot 109 on Max Melton, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick130 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
A curious use of pick 130. Quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Jarrian Jones did not.
Pick143 Rnd5 Nehemiah Pritchett
Nehemiah Pritchett at pick No. 143 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick148 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in Round 5, Pick 12, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick161 Rnd5 Grayson Murphy
No edge and no loss on Grayson Murphy in the 161st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick165 Rnd5 Brennan Jackson
Brennan Jackson at the 165th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Michael Barrett. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick201 Rnd6 Jawhar Jordan
No drama and no debate, Jawhar Jordan went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 26. The roster fit checks out.
Pick230 Rnd7 Evan Anderson
Value said wait; Evan Anderson in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
