Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D.

The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is McGlothern. Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

The Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Caleb Williams at the 1st pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In pick No. 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 4 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick66 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
A tidy little value on Javon Bullard in pick 66, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick77 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
Fair-plus on Xavier Legette, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick90 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
They jumped the gun on Christian Mahogany, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick121 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
They liked Theo Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick161 Rnd5 Dillon Johnson
A reach on Dillon Johnson in the 161st overall pick; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick229 Rnd7 Dwight McGlothern
Somehow Dwight McGlothern was still sitting there in pick No. 229, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
