FutureA+
A passer of the future in Daniels, and a A-, for the Bears. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Bears' quarterback, full stop.
If Bortolini pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick13
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 13th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In slot 27 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brenden Rice. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick80
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at No. 80 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick90
Rnd3
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in the 90th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
A real head-scratcher, Theo Johnson in pick No. 104 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick122
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe in Round 4, Pick 22 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick149
Rnd5
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at pick 149 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Pick194
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at No. 194, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick226
Rnd7
Andrew Raym
They paid a round early for Andrew Raym in slot 226, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
