Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Vikings won the night they stopped Abney II from sliding. Grade: B.

Somebody in Round 3, Pick 33 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Vikings sat still while Keith Abney II, the No. 75 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Lee reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a downhill hitter at safety, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at the 43rd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick75 Rnd3 Connor Lew
They will replay Connor Lew at slot 75 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick97 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Keith Abney II in the 97th overall pick, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick161 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
Fair-plus on DeMonte Capehart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick197 Rnd6 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
They let Jermaine Mathews Jr. come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick226 Rnd7 Jahiem White
Jahiem White at No. 226 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick242 Rnd7 Cayden Lee
They jumped the gun on Cayden Lee, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
