Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB-
Larceny in No. 58 lands the 49ers a B-, Thieneman and all. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Dillon Thieneman got past him. The 49ers do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 58. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Gill-Howard pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
KC Concepcion
In pick No. 27 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
The board fumbled Dillon Thieneman all the way to the 58th pick, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick66
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
Quietly one of the better values of the day, D'Angelo Ponds at Round 3, Pick 2. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick127
Rnd4
Skyler Gill-Howard
A reach for Skyler Gill-Howard in No. 127; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick133
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
They let Keylan Rutledge come to them and pounced at pick 133. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
Nothing to complain about; CJ Daniels went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick171
Rnd5
Brenen Thompson
Good price on Brenen Thompson in slot 171, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
