Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Sanders is the Browns' new face under center. Grade: B. The J.J. Weaver pick is the one that will follow the Browns into the fall. They took him 138 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Lambert-Smith.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In the 2nd overall pick they get the face of the franchise at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon at pick 33 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at No. 67 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick94
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Value with a capital V on Donovan Jackson in slot 94, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick103
Rnd4
Tai Felton
They paid sticker price for Tai Felton in pick No. 103, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick165
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 165th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick181
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
A running back of that caliber at pick 181 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylen Reed in No. 194. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick202
Rnd6
Kevin Jennings
A big swing on Kevin Jennings at pick No. 202, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick216
Rnd6
John Williams
John Williams at Round 6, Pick 38 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick217
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
The board fumbled KeAndre Lambert-Smith all the way to slot 217, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick257
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
