Draft Grade — Texans
Overall C
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureC+
The Texans let Ward fall and pounced. Final grade: C.

You could see the war room lean forward. Cameron Ward at pick 138 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A mixed bag that lands at C.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They are betting Sanders proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Jermaine Burton gives the group a proven body among the projects. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

If Nic Scourton and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Nic Scourton
In pick No. 28 they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis in Round 2, Pick 9 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick42 Rnd2 Barrett Carter
A straight-up fair deal on Barrett Carter at No. 42, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick60 Rnd2 T.J. Sanders
They reached a country mile for T.J. Sanders at slot 60, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick88 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in the 88th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick92 Rnd3 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in pick 92 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at the 120th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick124 Rnd4 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138 Rnd5 Cameron Ward
Taking Cameron Ward in slot 138 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick155 Rnd5 Tyler Baron
Tyler Baron in pick 155 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick216 Rnd7 Gavin Bartholomew
No edge and no loss on Gavin Bartholomew in Round 7, Pick 24; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
