Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A franchise passer in Nussmeier headlines a B- weekend for the Steelers.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Steelers spent their marquee pick on Garrett Nussmeier, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

On value alone, Chambliss makes the weekend a net positive. They will need Nussmeier to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Garrett Nussmeier
In No. 14 they get the arm they will build around, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick45 Rnd2 Trevor Goosby
Trevor Goosby at slot 45 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick78 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
A reach on Malachi Fields in pick No. 78; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick80 Rnd3 LaNorris Sellers
Taking LaNorris Sellers in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick99 Rnd3 A.J. Harris
A.J. Harris at Round 3, Pick 35 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick113 Rnd4 C.J. Fite
A reasonable price with a little left over, C.J. Fite in the 113th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jalon Kilgore at the 133rd overall pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick154 Rnd5 Terrance Carter Jr.
Terrance Carter Jr. in pick 154 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick213 Rnd6 Rasheem Biles
Nothing to complain about; Rasheem Biles went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick214 Rnd6 Quintrevion Wisner
Quintrevion Wisner in the 214th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217 Rnd7 Trinidad Chambliss
The board fumbled Trinidad Chambliss all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick229 Rnd7 Bryce Foster
They paid up for Bryce Foster at Round 7, Pick 14 when waiting would have done the job. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
