Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Ravens: B-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Ravens took Braylan Shelby a full 55 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Daniels. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Dani Dennis-Sutton
In No. 19 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick51 Rnd2 Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick83 Rnd3 Caleb Tiernan
They liked Caleb Tiernan enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 83. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick119 Rnd4 Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah at pick No. 119 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick159 Rnd5 Hollywood Smothers
They paid sticker price for Hollywood Smothers in the 159th pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick165 Rnd5 Braylan Shelby
Braylan Shelby in Round 5, Pick 25 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick174 Rnd5 Trey Moore
Trey Moore in pick No. 174 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick175 Rnd5 Zane Durant
A conviction pick on Zane Durant at No. 175 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels in pick 249 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick253 Rnd7 Tristan Leigh
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tristan Leigh in the Round 7 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
