FutureB-
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Muhammad: B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Malik Muhammad, the No. 76 name on the board, stolen at Round 3, Pick 33. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Williams lower, and that gap is the story. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick20
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In slot 20 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
A tidy little value on Caleb Banks in the 49th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick97
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
Taking Malik Muhammad in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick112
Rnd4
Will Lee III
A straight-up fair deal on Will Lee III at pick 112, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick150
Rnd5
Albert Regis
A conviction pick on Albert Regis at No. 150 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick177
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at pick No. 177 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick194
Rnd6
DJ Harvey
No edge and no loss on DJ Harvey in the 194th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick215
Rnd6
Peyton Bowen
By-the-book stuff, Peyton Bowen at the 215th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick221
Rnd7
Hykeem Williams
Hykeem Williams in slot 221 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick225
Rnd7
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant in No. 225 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
