Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Commanders a A-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Commanders spent pick No. 222 on Tyler Owens, a name the board had a full 33 spots lower. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. However the rest shakes out, Wilson at that price is a win they earned. Tremaine Edmunds gives the group a proven body among the projects.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 JC Latham
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36 Rnd2 Graham Barton
Nice patience on Graham Barton, who had no business lasting to No. 36. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in Round 2, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick55 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
By-the-book stuff, Braden Fiske at slot 55 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
Good price on Kingsley Suamataia in the 67th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
They robbed the room for Payton Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick78 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley at Round 3, Pick 14 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick91 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in pick No. 91; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
They took Braelon Allen at par in the 106th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick117 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
The board had cheaper options than Johnny Wilson at pick 117, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick139 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jarrian Jones in slot 139. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick152 Rnd5 Dallin Holker
No drama and no debate, Dallin Holker went about where he belonged in No. 152. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick158 Rnd5 Mason McCormick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mason McCormick at the 158th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick175 Rnd5 Myles Cole
They reached into another round for Myles Cole, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick184 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
A reach on Joe Milton III in Round 6, Pick 9; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick219 Rnd6 Trevin Wallace
Trevin Wallace at No. 219 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick222 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tyler Owens well ahead of where he belonged. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
