Nobody dealt better than the Commanders this weekend: A-. Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
They will need Milton III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end still on the board. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
However the rest shakes out, Kamara at that price is a win they earned.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 31st pick they get juice off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in the 40th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Graham Barton
No edge and no loss on Graham Barton in No. 50; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick54
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at pick 54 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Junior Colson
The board had cheaper options than Junior Colson at pick No. 67, and it noticed. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick71
Rnd3
Blake Corum
They took Blake Corum at par in Round 3, Pick 7, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick94
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
A big swing on Leonard Taylor III at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick95
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
A reach for Khyree Jackson in slot 95; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
A want over a need in the Round 3 slot: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while tight end keeps waiting.
Pick130
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
The board had Mohamed Kamara higher than the 130th pick, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick134
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
A surprising call. With tight end still to address, they spent pick 134 on Cedric Gray, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick141
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at Round 5, Pick 5 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick223
Rnd7
Isaiah Neyor
Good price on Isaiah Neyor in No. 223, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
