Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA FutureC
A passer of the future in Williams, and a B, for the Commanders.

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.

Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Reaching for Driskell left real value on the table behind him.

For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
No drama and no debate, Caleb Williams went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 2. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick36 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick53 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at No. 53, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick66 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in pick No. 66; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick71 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in pick 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick83 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at the 83rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick100 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Good price on Brenden Rice in the 100th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick123 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
They took Johnny Wilson at par in slot 123, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138 Rnd5 Mohamed Kamara
A slide stopped in pick No. 138, with Mohamed Kamara worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick177 Rnd6 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at the 177th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick181 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in Round 6, Pick 6 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick195 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in slot 195 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick218 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand in the 218th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick220 Rnd6 Ethan Driskell
Ethan Driskell at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
