Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
Larceny in pick 67 lands the Commanders a A-, Guyton and all.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Commanders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Guyton. Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with tight end and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They are betting Barton proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Quinyon Mitchell and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
They took Chop Robinson at par in pick No. 35, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick36 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in the 36th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40 Rnd2 Graham Barton
A premium they did not need to pay, Graham Barton a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick46 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy at slot 46 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick57 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul slid further than he should have, and No. 57 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67 Rnd3 Tyler Guyton
The board fumbled Tyler Guyton all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick101 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in the 101st overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end and interior defensive lineman to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick138 Rnd5 James Williams
A reasonable price with a little left over, James Williams in pick 138. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick150 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
They jumped the gun on Braelon Allen, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick181 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
They let Joe Milton III come to them and pounced at pick No. 181. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220 Rnd6 Jordan Magee
Good price on Jordan Magee in No. 220, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
