The Commanders worked the phones like thieves and earned a A.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Commanders did exactly that with Carson Steele in the 228th pick.

However the rest shakes out, McCaffrey at that price is a win they earned. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end and interior defensive lineman still on the board.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Joe Alt and all.

Good price on Quinyon Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 4, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick38 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
A slide stopped in the 38th pick, with Brian Thomas Jr. worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick47 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy at No. 47 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick53 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 53, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.

Zach Frazier at slot 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
