Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC FutureB
Williams is the Commanders' new face under center. Grade: B-.

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

Allen has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Ulofoshio.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
They took Caleb Williams at par in No. 2, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick40 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick63 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
The board had Kingsley Suamataia higher than the 63rd overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67 Rnd3 Junior Colson
Junior Colson at slot 67 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick77 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick101 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in Round 4, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
They reached into another round for Braelon Allen, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick176 Rnd6 Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick 176 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick181 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs at Round 6, Pick 6 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick220 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark in slot 220 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
