FutureB-
The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Skattebo: B. You build a draft on nights like this. Cam Skattebo had no business being available in the 131st pick, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Josh Simmons
In the 29th pick they get a building block for the line, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick71
Rnd3
Darien Porter
No drama and no debate, Darien Porter went about where he belonged in the 71st overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick88
Rnd3
Savion Williams
They paid sticker price for Savion Williams in No. 88, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick131
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at slot 131. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick184
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
They did well to land Jack Nelson in pick 184, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226
Rnd7
Caleb Ransaw
Taking Caleb Ransaw in pick No. 226 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick245
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at Round 7, Pick 29 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
