Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Commanders let Bailey fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-.

The Commanders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

The Jaire Alexander pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Xavier Legette and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick36 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 4. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick40 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Guyton at the 41st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick50 Rnd2 Graham Barton
A straight-up fair deal on Graham Barton at No. 50, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick54 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 54 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick57 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at the 57th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67 Rnd3 Adisa Isaac
Adisa Isaac at pick No. 67 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. The roster fit checks out.
Pick97 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in pick 97 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick101 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khyree Jackson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138 Rnd5 Javon Foster
Javon Foster in the 138th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
No edge and no loss on Curtis Jacobs in Round 6, Pick 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick220 Rnd6 Emani Bailey
They barely believed it either: Emani Bailey still on the board at the Round 6 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
