FutureB
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Commanders. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Commanders reached some 38 spots for Jaylin Lane, and value like that does not grow back. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
However the rest shakes out, Skattebo at that price is a win they earned. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In pick No. 29 they get a centerfielder for the defense, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick94
Rnd3
Savion Williams
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Savion Williams. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick121
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Circle this one: Cam Skattebo at the 121st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick128
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
Nice patience on Hollin Pierce, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 26. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jaylin Lane
They talked themselves into Jaylin Lane at slot 236, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
