Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Commanders turned the phones into found money: A-.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: James Williams, 37 picks early at the 98th overall pick.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

The Colson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board.

Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.

Pick Analysis
Pick50 Rnd2 Graham Barton
Graham Barton in pick No. 50 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick52 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at No. 52, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick54 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in slot 54; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick57 Rnd2 Adisa Isaac
Adisa Isaac at pick 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick63 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 31 is lovely value for the tight end. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick66 Rnd3 Junior Colson
A want over a need in the 66th overall pick: Junior Colson adds a linebacker while quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick67 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
They paid sticker price for Johnny Wilson in pick No. 67, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick71 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick77 Rnd3 Blake Corum
Blake Corum at slot 77 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick90 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
Value said wait; Leonard Taylor III in the 90th overall pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick93 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in the 93rd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick98 Rnd3 James Williams
They reached into another round for James Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick181 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
They left a pile of value on the table to take De'Corian Clark this early at Round 6, Pick 6. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick220 Rnd6 Myles Jones
Myles Jones at pick 220 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick241 Rnd7 Trevor Keegan
The board had cheaper options than Trevor Keegan at the 241st overall pick, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
