FutureC+
The Commanders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Driskell lower, and that gap is the story.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick 2 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
By-the-book stuff, Chop Robinson at the 36th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick50
Rnd2
Graham Barton
Graham Barton in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kingsley Suamataia in No. 59. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick67
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in slot 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick101
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at Round 4, Pick 1, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
They went early on Leonard Taylor III in the 103rd pick, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick138
Rnd5
James Williams
Fair-plus on James Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick160
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at the 160th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick181
Rnd6
Ethan Driskell
They paid up for Ethan Driskell at Round 6, Pick 6 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick220
Rnd6
Myles Jones
A reach on Myles Jones in slot 220; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
