Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Texans and Smith: B. You could see the war room lean forward. Brashard Smith at No. 167 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Ratledge pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Omarion Hampton
In the 25th overall pick they get a three-down runner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
A reach on Tate Ratledge in the 58th pick; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick89
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
A quiet steal in No. 89: Barrett Carter for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick127
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer in slot 127 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick167
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
They barely believed it either: Brashard Smith still on the board at pick No. 167. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick243
Rnd7
Sam Brown
Sam Brown slid further than he should have, and pick 243 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
