FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Williams in the fold, and a B+ for the Commanders. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Milton III pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They banked enough surplus on Bishop to cover a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick No. 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
They did well to land Tyler Guyton in the 36th pick, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
A clean, defensible pick in No. 58 with a little surplus value in Xavier Legette. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 3, Pick 18 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick88
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in slot 88; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick100
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker at pick 100 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick114
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop at the 114th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick117
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jalyx Hunt
Jalyx Hunt at the 118th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick192
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at No. 192 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
