Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesD+ FutureA+
The Commanders bet the future on Daniels. The board says B.

The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

However the rest shakes out, Legette at that price is a win they earned. The Laube pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In pick 5 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Quinyon Mitchell
Nice patience on Quinyon Mitchell, who had no business lasting to slot 36. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick37 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brian Thomas Jr. at No. 37 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick40 Rnd2 Cooper DeJean
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 40, where Cooper DeJean graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
Good price on Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick78 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
They robbed the room for Xavier Legette here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni slid further than he should have, and the 100th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick139 Rnd5 Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube at Round 5, Pick 3 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick140 Rnd5 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at the 140th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick152 Rnd5 Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in pick No. 152 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick222 Rnd7 Trevin Wallace
Trevin Wallace in slot 222 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
