The Commanders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B. Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The Thomas Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In the 2nd overall pick they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims slipping to pick No. 36 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick40
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
A slide stopped in No. 40, with Brian Thomas Jr. worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
No drama and no debate, Khyree Jackson went about where he belonged in pick 88. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick114
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Gray at the 114th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick116
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
They went early on Johnny Wilson in Round 4, Pick 16, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick126
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara in slot 126 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Trevor Keegan
They took Trevor Keegan at par in pick No. 139, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick152
Rnd5
Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube in the 152nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick222
Rnd7
Eric Watts
Eric Watts in No. 222 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick232
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
A straight-up fair deal on Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
