Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall

FutureB
Nobody dealt better than the Broncos this weekend: B+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Broncos did exactly that with Dayon Hayes in the 219th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Starks at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The DaQuan Jones deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick No. 30 they get a seam-stretching tight end, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick51
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in No. 51 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick56
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips at Round 3, Pick 35 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick105
Rnd4
Jaylin Lane
Jaylin Lane in the 105th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
A straight-up fair deal on Cobee Bryant at pick 122, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick191
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
They went early on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in the 191st overall pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
They took Jay Higgins at par in Round 6, Pick 21, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick208
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
They paid sticker price for Joshua Gray in pick 208, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick219
Rnd7
Dayon Hayes
Dayon Hayes at the 219th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
