Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Patriots let Shough fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Patriots, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They banked enough surplus on Shough to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In pick No. 12 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick46 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
A straight-up fair deal on Marcus Mbow at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick76 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Somehow Jayden Higgins was still sitting there in No. 76, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick77 Rnd3 Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. at pick 77 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick106 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
By-the-book stuff, Anthony Belton at slot 106 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick118 Rnd4 Jordan James
Jordan James in Round 4, Pick 16 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick144 Rnd5 Jonas Sanker
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 6, with Jonas Sanker worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough at slot 171 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
A tidy bit of business in pick 220, where Luke Lachey graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick238 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
No edge and no loss on Desmond Watson in No. 238; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
