Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB+
The Patriots found their guy under center in Ewers: B+.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Quinn Ewers is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They banked enough surplus on Pearsall to cover a lot of smaller sins. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Reaching for Ewers left real value on the table behind him.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In the 22nd pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick24 Rnd1 Quinn Ewers
In pick No. 24 they get a passer to set the clock by, even if it was a touch early.
Pick54 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in pick 54 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick66 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
By-the-book stuff, Leonard Taylor III at Round 3, Pick 2 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick86 Rnd3 Rod Moore
They did well to land Rod Moore in the 86th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick139 Rnd5 Cade Stover
Nothing to complain about; Cade Stover went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick180 Rnd6 Tyler Batty
Fair-plus on Tyler Batty, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223 Rnd7 Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall at No. 223 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
