Trapilo should have been long gone. The Vikings pounced, and earned a B. You could see the war room lean forward. Ozzy Trapilo at No. 161 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Reaching for West left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick37
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Derrick Harmon at pick No. 37 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick73
Rnd3
Benjamin Morrison
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 9 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick91
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
They will replay Quinshon Judkins at slot 91 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick107
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Fair-plus on Kevin Winston Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick108
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
No edge and no loss on Jared Wilson in pick 108; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick128
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Somehow Tez Johnson was still sitting there in No. 128, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick140
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick142
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at the 142nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick161
Rnd5
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick171
Rnd5
Cam Skattebo
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to pick 171, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick179
Rnd6
Dorian Strong
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dorian Strong in the 179th overall pick. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick180
Rnd6
CJ West
Value said wait; CJ West in pick No. 180 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick214
Rnd6
Bhayshul Tuten
You do not let a running back like Bhayshul Tuten reach No. 214 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
