Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The war room fell hard for Hollywood Smothers, and it showed at the 119th overall pick: 62 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. It is not that Biles is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Cam Coleman
In the 15th pick they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42 Rnd2 Rasheem Biles
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 42 on Rasheem Biles with cornerback, tight end and other spots unsolved.
Pick48 Rnd2 Kade Pieper
Nothing to complain about; Kade Pieper went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick119 Rnd4 Hollywood Smothers
A big swing on Hollywood Smothers at No. 119, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick153 Rnd5 CJ Bailey
They reached into another round for CJ Bailey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick191 Rnd6 Drew Bobo
They did well to land Drew Bobo in slot 191, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick218 Rnd6 Payton Pierce
By-the-book stuff, Payton Pierce at pick 218 squarely in line with his ranking. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
