Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Commanders.

The Commanders looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Michael Pratt at pick No. 40 regardless, 62 picks early.

That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Tight end was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
They paid sticker price for Brock Bowers in the 2nd overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Guyton. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40 Rnd2 Michael Pratt
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Michael Pratt well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at Round 3, Pick 3 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100 Rnd3 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick102 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tommy Eichenberg in the 102nd pick, miles early. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jaylen Wright
The board had cheaper options than Jaylen Wright at Round 5, Pick 5, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
A big swing on Jared Wiley at the 181st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223 Rnd7 Tatum Bethune
Tatum Bethune at slot 223 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
