Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Latham: D.

The Texans lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

They will need Milton III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Latham steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 JC Latham
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick43 Rnd2 Byron Murphy II
Byron Murphy II in No. 43 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick44 Rnd2 Tyler Nubin
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyler Nubin in the 44th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick59 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey in pick No. 59 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick77 Rnd3 Cade Stover
Good price on Cade Stover in pick 77, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick86 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
A premium they did not need to pay, Christian Mahogany a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick88 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick91 Rnd3 MarShawn Lloyd
MarShawn Lloyd in the 91st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick123 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
They read the board right and Cedric Gray was the payoff at No. 123. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick127 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
They took Mohamed Kamara at par in the 127th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick188 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
They liked Joe Milton III enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 188. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick247 Rnd7 Eric Watts
They let Eric Watts come to them and pounced at pick No. 247. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
