Jman275390 DRAFTING FOR THECowboys
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Cowboys, and a B to prove it. The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 5, Pick 11 on Jay Higgins a full 52 spots early. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Thornton Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 12th overall pick they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Good price on Jihaad Campbell in No. 44, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jack Bech
Jack Bech at Round 3, Pick 12 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in the 149th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171
Rnd5
Ollie Gordon II
A straight-up fair deal on Ollie Gordon II at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick174
Rnd5
Que Robinson
They went early on Que Robinson in pick 174, and the value did not follow. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick204
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
You do not let a wide receiver like Dont'e Thornton Jr. reach pick 204 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick211
Rnd6
Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III at the 211th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick239
Rnd7
Dante Trader Jr.
Value with a capital V on Dante Trader Jr. in slot 239, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad slid further than he should have, and pick No. 247 is lovely value for the cornerback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
