Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B to prove it.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Texans would have aced it. Caleb Tiernan at the 54th pick is 32 spots clear of where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Love. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In No. 23 they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39 Rnd2 Kayden McDonald
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Kayden McDonald worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick54 Rnd2 Caleb Tiernan
They reached a country mile for Caleb Tiernan at pick 54, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick65 Rnd3 Brian Parker II
Brian Parker II in the 65th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick107 Rnd4 Chandler Rivers
The board had Chandler Rivers higher than Round 4, Pick 7, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick122 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
They took Bryce Lance at par in slot 122, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick162 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 23 with a little surplus value in DeMonte Capehart. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick239 Rnd7 Jamal Haynes
They liked Jamal Haynes enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 239. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick241 Rnd7 Pat Coogan
They jumped the gun on Pat Coogan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
