Draft Grade — Giants
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Giants: B.

Every other box got a look, but interior defensive lineman did not. The Giants will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

That Smith pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The Freeling reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Rueben Bain Jr.
In the 1st pick they get a premier pass rusher. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Chris Bell
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Bell. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102 Rnd4 Monroe Freeling
This one needs a full-page explanation: Monroe Freeling in No. 102, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick140 Rnd5 Parker Brailsford
Good price on Parker Brailsford in the Round 5 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick183 Rnd6 Isaac Smith
Isaac Smith is a better player than the 183rd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick192 Rnd6 Josh Moten
They jumped the gun on Josh Moten, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick194 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss at Round 6, Pick 13 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
