Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D+.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.

They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. With interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on TE-EDGE is the choice that costs them.

The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wilson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In No. 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 JC Latham
Circle this one: JC Latham at Round 2, Pick 4 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick44 Rnd2 Kalen King
A clean, defensible pick in the 44th overall pick with a little surplus value in Kalen King. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75 Rnd3 Blake Corum
No edge and no loss on Blake Corum in slot 75; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick78 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Roman Wilson at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick102 Rnd4 Cade Stover
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 102nd pick on Cade Stover with interior defensive lineman unsolved.
Pick110 Rnd4 Payton Wilson
They robbed the room for Payton Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick122 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea in pick No. 122 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick146 Rnd5 Drake Nugent
No drama and no debate, Drake Nugent went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 10. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick154 Rnd5 Keith Randolph Jr.
They paid sticker price for Keith Randolph Jr. in the 154th overall pick, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick181 Rnd6 Kitan Oladapo
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kitan Oladapo at the Round 6 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick234 Rnd7 Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at the 234th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
