FutureB
A passer of the future in Williams, and a D, for the Bears. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
If Cole pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Mike Evans gives the group a proven body among the projects.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In slot 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In No. 9 they get a seam-stretching tight end at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 2, Pick 26 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick72
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at the 72nd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
A tidy little value on Khyree Jackson in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea in pick 122 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick126
Rnd4
Malik Washington
Malik Washington slipping to the 126th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick154
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
No edge and no loss on LaDarius Henderson in slot 154; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick236
Rnd7
Myles Cole
Myles Cole at the 236th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
