You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Reaching for Randolph Jr. left real value on the table behind him.

Zinter at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
